Bayern Munich icon Thomas Muller has outlined why his former club should move swiftly to snap up Johan Manzambi, amid speculation linking the player with Manchester United. The Old Trafford side have been credited with an interest in the Switzerland international as the summer transfer window heats up.
United are yet to significantly strengthen their ranks ahead of next season, though they have already struck an agreement for their first acquisition of the window. Atalanta midfielder Ederson is set to become a United player this summer after the club sealed a £35million deal with the Serie A side for the Brazilian, with a further £3.8million available in add-ons.
Exactly who else United will pursue remains to be seen, with Freiburg’s Manzambi having emerged as a potential target over recent months. Manzambi is currently turning heads for Switzerland at this summer’s World Cup, being held across North America, and delivered a standout display in the country’s 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier this week.
The 20-year-old midfielder — reportedly valued at around £43million — netted twice in the match and has since drawn high praise from Muller, who has called on Bayern to make their move this summer.
“He’s a good player overall. We’ve had him on our list for a while now,” Muller stated on MagentaTV. “For me, he’s someone, and now we can make a headline, that FC Bayern should also consider.
“You can sense his flexibility. You can also sense his carefree attitude. At the same time, you can already see a certain maturity in his actions, in his decision-making, his work ethic.”
“He’s now in Freiburg in a team where they really work hard. I think his development is very, very good. He’s a player who can play as No.6 he can play as No.8, he can play as No.10.
“He wears No.9 on his back, so maybe we could also market him as a striker!”.

Manzambi confessed he was going to struggle to return to reality following his match-winning brace for Switzerland at the World Cup.
“Honestly, it’s incredible, it’s the first brace of my career, and at the World Cup on top of that,” Manzambi said via FIFA’s website.

“Scoring two goals in front of the fans and my family, that’s very, very nice. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight.”
