Curacao’s goalkeeper, Eloy Room, delivered a historic performance, making 15 saves to secure a 0-0 draw against Ecuador, earning his nation its first-ever World Cup point.
Room’s exceptional goalkeeping was one save short of the World Cup record and the most made without extra time, drawing comparisons to Tim Howard’s 2014 feat.
The draw allowed Germany to clinch Group E and placed Ecuador in a precarious position ahead of their final group stage match.
Despite Ecuador’s 27 shots on goal, Room’s efforts prevented them from scoring, leading to frustration for their coach, Sebastian Beccacece.
The match, held in Kansas City, was attended by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, who witnessed Curacao’s memorable achievement.
