Labour peer Charles Falconer says that Prime Minister Keir Starmer now lacks authority, with over 100 Labour MPs calling for his resignation.
Lord Falconer suggested Starmer has lost power, with many expecting Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to take over.
Cabinet ministers are urging Sir Keir to step down following Mr Burnham’s landslide victory in the Makerfield by-election.
Heidi Alexander was reportedly the first minister to advise the prime minister to resign.
Sir Keir Starmer is understood to be taking the weekend to consider his future, after earlier declaring that he will not resign and will contest any leadership challenge.
