‘Two trains involved in collision’ near Bedford as public urged to avoid area

Emergency services are responding to an incident on a railway line south of Bedford, following initial reports of a collision involving two trains.
British Transport Police said shortly before 6.45pm: “We’re responding to reports of a collision involving two trains in the Bedford area.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue confirmed via a post on X that their crews are in attendance at the scene on the railway. They urged members of the public to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for rail operator Thameslink is “strongly” urging people not to travel until later today.
They added: “If you cannot delay your journey, please note that you will be severely delayed and will likely need to use an alternative route to reach your destination.”
