An attack on an international airport is currently unfolding, with travellers gunned down and at least one fatality.
Footage from inside Ecuador’s’ José Joaquín de Olmedo’ airport has begun to circulate online, with graphic footage showing utter carnage with horror-stricken loved one cradling the injured and dead.
Video footage too graphic to share came alongside an eyewitness account on social media, describing a “heavy shootout” inside the airport at Guayaquil with “several people shot”.
As per local reports, one man was killed in the attack on Wednesday (June 17) near the entrance to the international airport. It is understood that the attack was part of an assasination artempt.

The shooting occurred in the international arrivals departure area of the José Joaquín de Olmedo airport, where armed men shot at the victims in a suspected assassination attempt.
According to initial reports, the person who died – believed to be the subject of the hit – had just landed at the Ecuadorian airport when he and his wife when he was attacked. The injured survivor has been rushed to hospital for treatment.
A source from within Ecuador’s Ministry of the Interior confirmed to reputable local news agency PRIMICIAS that two arrests had been made following the attack. The Ministry’s source added that the duo were apprehended in the parking area of the airport terminal.

The shooting comes only a day after the South American nation declared a state of emergency for 10 provinces across Ecuador in the wake of an uptick of gang violence and organised crime.
