The Tunisia Football Federation (FTF) has now deleted a post that appeared to confirm the sacking of boss Sabri Lamouchi.

While the ex-Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City head coach is still largely expected to depart his role, Tunisia have seemingly backtracked – for now.

Earlier today, the FTF posted the following statement on Instagram in Arabic: “An agreement has been officially reached to dismiss coach Sabri Lamouchi.

“Plans are underway to appoint Mondher Kebaier as the national team coach (on an interim basis) to complete the World Cup qualifying matches.”

The issue was, a formal agreement on exit terms seemingly wasn’t actually reached and there has now been some confusion over whether he’s exited his position.

Tunisian reports have indicated he actually led part of a team session today at the Rayados Training Centre, though he wasn’t pictured during the 15-minute open section.

A video later emerged of the squad arriving back at their team hotel, though Lamouchi was not present.

Mirror Football has approached a source within the Tunisia camp for comment to gain clarity on the matter.

Former Arsenal defender Omar Rekik had pulled a goal back for the North African nation – they had trailed 2-0 – before half-time but Sweden’s attacking prowess proved all too much at the Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, Mexico.

Tunisia will play at the same venue again on Saturday when they take on Japan in their second game in Group F but it remains unclear who will be in the dugout.

Lamouchi said following his side’s embarrassing capitulation: “We need to be more aware. We cannot keep making mistakes that are obvious and easy to avoid. At this level, such errors are unforgivable.

“With world-class players that we have in the two Swedish forwards, it’s something that you don’t recover from.”

One name that has been mooted as a potential replacement candidate is Herve Renard, who fired Saudi Arabia to a stunning World Cup scalp over Argentina in Qatar back in 2022.

It’s a messy situation that Tunisian players and fans will be keen to resolve as the saga is currently overshadowing their tournament.
