Members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church took to the streets of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to protest the rising insecurity in the country and demand the immediate release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
In a video shared via X on Monday, the church members were seen marching peacefully while carrying placards and chanting slogans against kidnapping, banditry and attacks on schools.
Some of the placards displayed messages such as “Stop Kidnapping,” “Stop Insecurity,” “We Want End of Banditry,” “Release Our Abducted Students in Captivity,” and “We Want End of Attacks on Our Schools.”
During the procession, the protesters repeatedly called on the government to take urgent action to secure the country and rescue the victims.
“We want end to bandit attacks on our schools, bring back our school children. We want our children back,” one of the protesters declared.
The demonstrators also demanded improved leadership and security, chanting, “We need good governance in Nigeria. We don’t want insurgency again. We don’t want insecurity again.”
Expressing concern over the abduction of schoolchildren, another protester said, “Bring back our children from Oyo State, Ibadan. Our children are not politicians. They are the future generation. If we kill them, who will succeed Nigeria tomorrow?”
The protesters further called for an end to violence and criminality across the country, chanting, “End bad governance in Nigeria. End killing of Christians. End killing of our children. End kidnapping of our children. End insecurity in Nigeria.”
They also demanded the return of all abducted children, saying, “We don’t want our children to die again. End bandits in Nigeria. Let there be good governance in Nigeria. Bring back all our children.”
The demonstration comes amid growing concerns over insecurity and recurring attacks on schools in parts of the country.
