When a fresh-faced Harry Styles first tried to impress The X Factor judges 16 years ago, few could have predicted he’d become a global superstar. Since then, the former One Direction member has become what Rolling Stone UK calls “one of modern pop’s most exciting and entertaining forces”, with record-breaking albums, some of the biggest tours in music history and roles in Hollywood movies.
Now, with another No1 album, a show-stopping Brit Awards performance and stadium tour officially signalling his 2026 comeback, the Redditch-born star has never been more adored or talked about.
But timing is everything, and Harry, 32, recently revealed he needed to take a break from the non-stop pop roller-coaster and “have some fun” so he could return in the positive way he wanted. “I think kind of taking a big step away from everything… I just learned a lot about, like, myself and the way that I wanted to work and stuff going forward,” he said earlier this year. “It feels really exciting.”

One person he has certainly shared some fun with is actress Zoë Kravitz, who he was first spotted with in August 2025. More recently, rumours have circulated that Harry had proposed to Zoë, 37, when she was seen wearing a diamond ring, but neither party have confirmed the news.
Summing up Harry’s boundary-crossing appeal, pop culture analyst and Brit Cult founder Mark Knox says it’s as much about the star’s infectious charisma as his music.
“He’s just incredibly cool,” says Mark. “There’s almost something intangible about him that you can’t quite put your finger on. When Harry was on stage with One Direction, he stood out as the cool one. He had an aura about him and he’s stayed that way.
“It’s interesting, because he’s one of the biggest pop stars on the planet and is almost omnipresent in pop culture, and yet at the same time has managed to maintain a level of privacy which means we don’t actually know that much about him. In a time in pop culture where we almost have too much access, that makes him even cooler.”
Now back after a three-year break, Harry is in the throes of the biggest year of his career so far. His fourth album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, hit the top spot in March, and he is currently dazzling UK fans with his impressive 12-night residency at Wembley Stadium with his worldwide Together, Together tour.

It is quite a feat for a singer who initially found fame as part of a reality TV-manufactured boyband alongside Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and the late Liam Payne.
Hot on the heels of his No1 single, Aperture, Harry’s latest album was streamed more than 63 million times on the first day of release in March — around 43,750 times every minute! — making it the biggest new album of 2026 so far.
Music writer Michael Cragg describes it as his “most divisive album yet, and yet still a very Harry Styles album”. “He talked recently about losing sight of why he made music and I think making this album was a very personal journey of rediscovering that,” Michael tells OK! “He’s clearly at a point where he feels he can try something different and focus more on what he wants to do, rather than what others want from him. And you only get in that position when you’ve ticked every other box in terms of of success, which he has.”
It was a bold move for an artist known for anthemic, uplifting pop, but Harry seems to have found his happy place. “I’ve kind of rediscovered what a privilege it is to be in people’s lives through music over the last couple of years,” he said at an intimate gig in February. “In a world that we have today, that feels so chaotic, it’s so easy to become hopeless — and I see what you create together and there is just so much hope in here.”

Harry parents — pub landlady Anne Twist and financier Des Styles — divorced when he was seven. The family moved to Holmes Chapel in Cheshire, along with Harry’s big sister Gemma, and he’s said he has good memories of his “great childhood”.
At the age of just 16, Harry auditioned for The X Factor and landed a spot in globe-conquering boyband One Direction, setting him firmly on the path to stardom. “Everything in my life has felt like a bonus since The X Factor,” he said. “Get on TV and sing. I never expected and never thought that would happen.”
But he hasn’t rested on his laurels, says PR expert and talent manager Dermot McNamara. “Harry’s universal appeal isn’t accidental, rather it’s something that has been built over time,” Dermot says. “He understands that his audience has grown up and wants something that feels meaningful as well as exciting — that’s why he’s still at the top. He hasn’t just kept his audience, he’s matured with them.”
Given Harry has spent more than half his life in the spotlight, it’s easy to understand why he decided to take some time out when he turned 30 in February 2024. He temporarily relocated to Italy in what he called a “big, important, transitional moment”, which allowed him to slow down and enjoy a quieter life.

“Without question, that has influenced the work I’m now making — it came from a place of pure freedom,” he said afterwards. We also learned last year that he had incorporated marathon training into his fitness regime. In fact he was so successful, he became one of last year’s top marathon finishers in the world, finishing the Berlin Marathon in 2:59:13.
“I don’t think marathon running makes Harry cooler, I think Harry makes marathon running cooler,” Mark says. “It’s incredible what he’s done — you see photos of him and think, ‘Maybe I’m one run away from looking as cool as Harry Styles.’”
But after his well-earned break, Harry is back, bigger and better than ever. “Touring can be transactional for a lot of artists, but with Harry there’s a visible chemistry and that translates directly into the performance — everyone wants to be there,” he says. “It‘s definitely been worth the wait.”
