Jessica Morden, a prominent Labour MP and chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party, has been appointed a Dame in the King’s Birthday Honours.
Dame Jessica, who has represented Newport East for two decades, was recognised for her 35 years of work in the Labour Party, much of it behind the scenes.
Former Conservative MPs David Gauke and Greg Hands were also awarded knighthoods in this year’s honours list.
Sir David Gauke received his knighthood for his work on the independent sentencing review, which proposed reforms to the justice system to address prison capacity issues.
Former Labour minister, author, and political diarist Chris Mullin was also knighted, acknowledging his contributions as an MP and journalist.
