Whether you spend your weekends down the pub with family or friends, it’s nice having a day out. Now if you fancy venturing outside of your local area, there’s so many nice spots to visit – like the village named the “prettiest in England”.

But if you fancy some sand as the UK faces 29C heat this weekend, you can add this cute location to your bucket list. The great thing is, the destination is just a short train ride away from London. You can build sand castles at the beach, enjoy a ice cream or even take a stroll down the cobbled streets.

The place we’re talking about is Margate, Kent. A TikTok page recently shared a snippet of the seaside town which showed ice cream stalls and adorable spots to pick up flowers.

Also the page, known as @cangotravelling, showed where to pick up some retro sweets from your childhood and The Bus Cafe which is a popular restaurant for brunch.

Known for its sandy beaches, Margate has it all – from an amusement park with vintage rides to the Shell Grotto’s underground passages. A day trip to Kent will be perfect as you can enjoy British seaside nostalgia with thriving contemporary art.

If you’re going in the morning, why don’t you start your day with some breakfast at The Bus Cafe. The parked double-decker bus is located on the seafront and is famous for its award-winning Full English.

Next, stroll down the cobbled streets and visit the independent vintage stores. You can also soak up the sunshine on the Margate Main Sands, then spend some coins at Dreamland Margate, the iconic retro amusement park.

Once you’ve built up an appetite, you can take a walk down the pier and grab a pint with some food at the Margate Harbour Arm.

Don’t forget to stop for some fish and chips as the legendary local favourite Peter’s Fish Factory is worth visiting.

And lastly, Love Lane is a historic street in the heart of Margate’s Old Town which is tucked away between Market Place and the seafront.

The drive from London to Margate will take you around 1 hour and 52 minutes, covering 77 miles. It’s a route which requires you to drive on the A2 and M2.

Alternatively, a train journey is just 1 hour and 42 minutes from Victoria Station. Although from St Pancras, the journey could take under 1 hour and a half.

Otherwise, Margate is fairly straightforward if you’re travelling from other places.
