Mid-generation console refreshes present an interesting conundrum for gamers. They promise better performance and new features, but are the improvements worth paying for, or is it better to wait for the next generation?

With some analysts predicting Sony will launch the PlayStation 6 in late 2027 and others suggesting it may not arrive until 2029 due to the global RAM crisis, that’s the question currently facing the PS5 Pro.

Launched in November 2024, four years after the original PS5, Sony’s premium console received a lukewarm reception, with many questioning whether its higher price was justified.

But as more games launch with PS5 Pro-specific enhancements, older titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 receive Pro upgrades and Sony continues to improve the console’s capabilities, the PS5 Pro is becoming an increasingly tantalising prospect.
