Scott McTominay has rejoined the Scotland squad for training in Foxborough, Massachusetts, ahead of their World Cup opener against Haiti on Saturday.
The Napoli midfielder had missed Thursday’s session at the team’s Charlotte, North Carolina base due to an upset stomach.
Following the training session, Steve Clarke’s squad flew to Boston, with reports indicating the 29-year-old travelled separately with a doctor as a precautionary measure.
McTominay is a pivotal figure for Scotland, who are making their first World Cup appearance in 28 years, and will be crucial to their ambitions of reaching the knockout stages for the first time.
He boasts an impressive record of 15 goals in 70 international appearances, including the iconic overhead-kick opener in last November’s 4-2 victory over Denmark that secured qualification, and a goal in last Saturday’s 4-0 friendly win against Bolivia.
In other squad news, defender Scott McKenna again sat out training due to a knock, casting doubt on his availability for the Haiti clash at Gillette Stadium.
Midfielder Billy Gilmour, who is sidelined for the tournament with a knee injury sustained against Curacao, joined the squad on Thursday and observed from the sidelines.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay was also among the interested spectators, watching Clarke’s side complete their final preparations for their much-anticipated return to the global stage.
Scotland will begin their World Cup campaign this weekend in what appears to be a must-win game ahead of two trickier group matches on paper further down the line.
Clarke’s side are due to face five-time champions Brazil and 2022 semi-finalists Morocco in their other two matches as they aim to progress to the knockout rounds.
Scotland have never made it beyond the group stage at the World Cup but could make history this time around, and their chances have been boosted by the return of McTominay.
