Park Police investigating ‘8647’ marking on National Mall
An anti-Trump slogan, “8647,” was found written in large letters in the grass near the Washington Monument on the National Mall, prompting a federal investigation.
Park Police responded to reports of vandalism on Thursday morning, collecting grass samples for testing as the investigation into the cause of the discoloration is ongoing.
The slogan “8647” combines the slang term “86” (to get rid of) with Trump’s status as the 47th president, adopted as an anti-Trump message.
The Department of Interior condemned the “deranged vandalism” and any threats against the president, stating that U.S. Park Police will hold those responsible accountable.
The slogan previously created a political firestorm last May when former FBI Director James Comey tweeted an image of “8647” written in stones on a beach.
