The All Progressives Congress, APC, aspirant for the Esan South-East Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Barrister Victor Giwa, has lauded Governor Monday Okpebholo for the improved security in the Uloshi community in Esan South-East Local Government Area of the state.
The lawyer, a human rights activist, commended the state governor while addressing supporters on Thursday.
Giwa equally called on the residents of the community to support the efforts of the government and the security agencies.
He called for the establishment of a State Security Endowment Intervention Fund, ESSEIF, for funding security and other paramilitary outfits in the state.
“The people of Uloshi Community of Esan South East Local Government Area, together with my humble self, commend His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for the handling of security matters in the state, especially in the wake of the kidnapping and banditry reported in the neighbouring states and some states of the federation.
“We strongly commend the governor for the support given to the various security heads in the state and for ensuring that the people are mobilised to positively engage the security agencies with information and intelligence to prevent security breaches in any community in the state.
“External vigilance, they say, is the price of liberty. We want to use this opportunity to call on him to continue to up his game to ensure that insecurity is brought to the barest minimum.
“It is my strong position that as part of this strategy and innovation to strengthen the security of the state, there will be a need to establish a State Security Endowment Intervention Fund (ESSEIF) for easy access to funding security and other paramilitary outfits, provision of facilities, human resources and intelligence gathering in aid of prevention and protection of lives and property.
“Edo is safe” will be our slogan throughout the tenure of His Excellency,” Giwa said.
DAILY POST recalls that Edo State has in recent times recorded a series of kidnapping incidents, with several residents abducted or killed.
The kidnapping has been blamed on suspected herdsmen.
But Festus Ebea, Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, recently alleged that some residents are harbouring herders and suspected terrorists in their houses for kidnappings in the state.
