Pioneering NHS treatment to be offered to thousands of men with prostate cancer

NHS England is introducing a new, highly targeted radiotherapy called Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) for men with early prostate cancer.
This innovative treatment will reduce the number of required radiotherapy doses from over 20 to just five, typically delivered over two weeks.
All 48 radiotherapy centres across England will begin offering SABR within the next three months, with some facilities starting as early as next week.
Around 17,500 men diagnosed annually with low or intermediate risk prostate cancer in England could be eligible for this treatment.
The rollout is expected to free up approximately 50,000 prostate cancer treatment appointments each year, significantly benefiting patients and reducing the burden on the NHS.
