Pioneering NHS treatment to be offered to thousands of men with prostate cancer

Bobby Davro opens up about prostate cancer diagnosis
  • NHS England is introducing a new, highly targeted radiotherapy called Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) for men with early prostate cancer.
  • This innovative treatment will reduce the number of required radiotherapy doses from over 20 to just five, typically delivered over two weeks.
  • All 48 radiotherapy centres across England will begin offering SABR within the next three months, with some facilities starting as early as next week.
  • Around 17,500 men diagnosed annually with low or intermediate risk prostate cancer in England could be eligible for this treatment.
  • The rollout is expected to free up approximately 50,000 prostate cancer treatment appointments each year, significantly benefiting patients and reducing the burden on the NHS.
