Forget the pitter patter of little feet, it’s the thud of boots on grass which will soon be keeping the nation up at night.

As football fever grips the nation, 79% of Brits say they will give up sleep to keep up to speed with the results.

More than half (53%) predicted that the tournament will leave them looking less fresh with 30% prepared to skip skincare, grooming or wellness routines altogether, according to the survey by Currys.

But despite this the nation is excited. Four in ten (41%) say they will decorate their homes while 59% have bought products specifically for hosting football matches at home.

Nearly half of the group stage matches will start after midnight UK time, with some kicking off at five in the morning, as for the first time the competition is held across three countries: Canada, the US and Mexico.

Currys has launched a limited-edition range of football-inspired technology and appliances ahead of the competition.
