Manchester United will hope to use the transfer market to build on their recent momentum. New permanent manager Michael Carrick led the club back to the Champions League places during his interim spell in charge and will be focused on strengthening his squad.

Casemiro’s departure has made central midfield one of United’s top priorities. A deal has already been struck for Atlanta star Ederson and Carrick’s side are expected to make further additions in the middle of the park.

United benefited from a lack of European football last term and will need a deeper squad to compete on multiple fronts. The club are claimed to be targeting a new left-back to compete with Luke Shaw, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown among those linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has made his thoughts clear after watching England team-mate Anthony Gordon complete a move to Barcelona. Mirror Football looks at some of the biggest stories surrounding United.

Marcus Rashford has shown his feelings towards Barcelona following the club’s decision to sign Anthony Gordon. The £70million deal leaves Rashford with an uncertain future following his loan spell at the Camp Nou, having consistently expressed his desire to stay at the Catalan club, who have an option to make his move permanent for £26m.

Gordon occupies the same flank as Rashford, which raises doubts about the latter’s chances of staying at Barcelona. However, the former Newcastle United winger has shared how Rashford reacted to his transfer, as both players are in England’s World Cup squad.

“He was just telling me how good the lads are there, the team spirit that they have, which I heard already from the people in Barca,” Gordon told talkSPORT after England’s 1-0 win over New Zealand.

“So I’m really looking forward to joining up with them. He was also telling me about the city, places to live. He’s a lovely guy, very caring. So he was just giving me a bit of information.”

Eintracht Frankfurt full-back Nathaniel Brown is claimed to be nearing a move to Bayern Munich. Manchester Evening News reports that Brown is one of several left-backs being tracked by United.

According to Sky Sport Germany, the 22-year-old has agreed personal terms with Bayern. Brown is reported to have agreed a deal until 2031 but the Bundesliga champions are yet to match Frankfurt’s £51.8million asking price.

It means that the transfer could still collapse if Bayern and Frankfurt cannot agree on a fee. The Germany international registered four goals and four assists in 33 league games last season.
