Nine people are in hospital following a shooting near England’s World Cup base in Kansas City, Missouri.
Police were called at around 4am CDT on Saturday (10am BST) to reports of shots being fired on Troost Avenue, close to the team’s training base and the hotel which England are due to use during the tournament. The nine people all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Kansas City Police Department captain Jake Becchina told The Athletic that officers arrived to find a large crowd dispersing. Three women were among those injured and taken to hospital, police said. A further six adults also attended local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
No arrests have been made and officers are continuing to patrol the area. England’s players and staff are currently in Palm Beach, Florida, where they are completing their preparations for the World Cup.
England will travel to their Kansas City base on Saturday and kick off their World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 17, before facing Ghana and Panama in Group L.
