A telling scene on Coronation Street has seemingly given away who told the social services about Daniel Osbourne.
The schoolteacher, who is played by Rob Mallard, is coming to terms with the fact that his ex-girlfriend Megan had an illicit relationship with a student, and in the weeks since, has turned to booze to cope as Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) began to, for some reason, spread hate about him anonymously online.
He has since found out that Jodie, whom he was in the early stages of a relationship with, was behind it all and he hit the bottle to cope once more, leaving seven-year-old son Bertie to fend for himself when he passed out on the sofa. The little one had the wherewithal to take himself off to number one, where grandad Ken Barlow, aunt Tracy and cousin Adam took care of him.

But it all came to a head when Daniel came round and found that his son had to be taken in by family for the night, and a tense row broke out in the living room which resulted in Ken being accidentally punched in the face. Ken asked him to leave. Following all that drama, later scenes showed social services arriving at Daniel’s flat and he has been interviewed about Bertie’s wellbeing.
While many fans believe that Jodie, who has been carrying out strange behaviour ever since she turned up as Shona Ramsey’s long-lost sister during the crossover with Emmerdale, was the one who called social services, other fans believe it was someone else entirely.
One viewer thinks that it might have been Beth Sutherland (Lisa George), who left the programme almost two years ago, might be the one behind it all. Beth was the mother of PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) and the aunt of Bertie’s mum Sinead Osbourne (Katie McGlynn), both now deceased, so it’s possible that she is still in touch with her ex-husband Kirk and heard about the situation that way.

Taking to X, the fan wrote: “I think Beth called Social Services. Because Kirk would of told Beth as they must still speak and she rang them. Thats my theory and I’m sticking to it,” as another said: “I think Kirk!”
Another wondered if it might have been Tracy, especially after one scene in particular but then decided that it was unlikely given the character’s history.
They said: “I initially wondered if Tracy called the social services – they might have given it away because she was the only one not in the scene when it all kicked off and they turned up. But then I imagine Tracy, who as we all know got away with murder, isn’t really a fan of authority.”
Another wrote: “I think Sean [Tully]. The way he was listening in the background camera on him. That’s the only reason I think it’s him,” but others speculated that it might have been newcomer Idris Nazir (Junade Khan), who recently turned up as the cousin of established character Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), whom she had never mentioned before.
On Facebook, one fan said: “That new bloke, he looks shifty as owt,” as another said: “I think it was Alya’s cousin,” and a third joked: “Why are soaps full of nasty t****rs?”
