1. Boko Haram insurgents have killed soldiers at a military formation at Mandara-Girau, in Biu local government area of Borno State. Mandara-Girau is located a few kilometers away from Biu town. Security sources revealed that the attackers stormed the military location in the early hours of Friday and opened fire on the troops, amidst heavy rainfall.
2. The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, has called on his subjects to legally acquire weapons to protect their communities against persistent attacks by bandits. He also urged communities in the emirate to remain vigilant and take proactive measures against terrorists and criminal elements that often invade the areas.
3. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday adjourned indefinitely proceedings in the suit seeking the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Accord Party, Action Alliance, AA and others. Justice Peter Lifu had fixed Friday to deliver judgment in the suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators against some political parties.
4. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday signed Executive Order No. 002 of 2026 aimed at strengthening security, enforcing vehicle registration regulations and improving traffic management across the state. The development followed heightened security concerns after the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area.
5. The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has impounded more than 30 vehicles for violating regulations on tinted glasses. Vehicles with obscure number plates and improper vehicle registration were also seized in the operation which held across Abuja.
6. The Supreme Court, on Friday, upheld death by hanging for a convicted Delta-based kidnapper, Chelynor Halim. In a unanimous decision, a five‑member panel of the apex court dismissed the convict’s appeal as lacking in merit.
7. The Senate has promised to expedite action on the constitutional framework for the establishment of state police amid rising insecurity, banditry and abductions across the country. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Yemi Adaramodu, disclosed this in an interview on Friday.
8. Some bandits invaded the Igbosi area of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, destroying two buildings and kidnapping a nine-year-old boy in the early hours of Friday. It was gathered that the bandits entered the community at about 1am, shooting sporadically to scare residents. They reportedly destroyed two houses before picking up the victim and whisking him away to an unknown destination.
9. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has uncovered an illegal detention camp in the Badagry area of Lagos State and rescued 24 victims, including a toddler, while arresting four suspected members of a cross-border criminal syndicate. The suspects, said to be nationals of Togo, Benin Republic and Ghana, were arrested during an operation carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Command of the NSCDC in Itoga, Badagry.
10. Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday said President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly behind the scenes day and night to secure the release of all citizens kidnapped in Oyo. Shettima gave the assurance at the Abuja National Mosque for a special Juma’at service, to commemorate the forthcoming 2026 Democracy Day.
