The government have issued a warning as a popular baby item sold in the UK has a ‘serious risk of injury’ and ‘suffocation’.
The dangerous fold-out travel crib has been taken off sale after the warning was issued to parents who many have purchased the popular item.
A safety report for the The New Mummy Crib Backpack sold via Amazon, eBay, Fruugo, Joom and DH Gate, led to the withdrawal of the item.

It is a backpack that folds out into a baby travel cot with “multiple compartments”.
The government‘s Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) shared the safety warning, adding that the crib has been rejected at the UK border.
OPSS describe the product as “not structurally stable” with “no warnings to indicate that it cannot be used overnight”.
The risks highlight that despite the item being made for a baby to sleep on the go, there is no indication it is not suitable for overnight sleeping and presents a suffocation risk.

It adds that a baby’s “natural movements” could cause the crib to collapse or tilt sideways if they were left in it overnight, resulting in “serious injuries”.
“The crib is also supplied with a cover which would fully enclose and cover the baby, potentially leading to suffocation,” the report adds.
These issues mean that it does not meet the requirements outlined in the 2005 General Product Safety Regulations.
