The New York Knicks will return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, facing the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals series on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
In an unlikely about-face, the New York Police Department has lifted its ban on outdoor watch parties for the New York Knicks, according to The Athletic.
This decision allows the team to secure a permit for fans to gather at Plaza 33 ahead of Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals.
The ban was originally imposed after six fans were arrested following the Knicks’ May 2021 win against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani had previously promised city-wide watch parties, emphasizing safety and accessibility for fans.
