Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of collaborating with Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, terrorists in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
This was disclosed in a post on X on Wednesday by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in Lake Chad region.
Makama, citing security sources, said the suspect, identified as Abdullahi Saidu Buba, was apprehended on June 1 following intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations by military personnel in the area.
According to the report, a tactical drone operated by the Naval Brigade Lake Chad spotted Buba in the company of individuals believed to be armed terrorists before the group dispersed.
The suspect was subsequently tracked as he moved towards the location of Charlie Company, 196 Amphibious Battalion, where troops intercepted and arrested him.
During preliminary interrogation, Buba reportedly told investigators that he is a cattle rearer from Kwatan Yobe in Kukawa Local Government Area and resides north of the Dumba general area. He said he frequently travels between Dumba and Baga.
Military sources said the suspect admitted receiving N1,000 from suspected terrorists to buy bread for them while travelling to Baga to visit his sick brother, identified as Illiasu.
Items recovered from him included a wristwatch, lighter, bottle of cow milk (nono), power bank, Android smartphone, paracetamol tablets, a Fulani hat and N30,000 cash.
Military authorities said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
