Pizza recall issued over potential Salmonella contamination fears

  • Champion Foods LLC has voluntarily recalled specific batches of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread across the US due to potential Salmonella contamination.
  • The recall stems from an initial California Dairies, Inc. milk powder recall, which is an ingredient in a seasoning blend used in the pizza bread.
  • Despite routine testing by the seasoning blend manufacturer showing negative results for Salmonella, the company initiated the recall as a precautionary measure.
  • The affected 5 Cheese Bread products were distributed nationwide to various retailers, and consumers can identify recalled items by checking the ‘sell-by’ date printed on the front of the package. The FDA have listed the numerous sell-by dates on its website.
  • While no illnesses have been reported to date, consumers are strongly advised not to consume the recalled products, as Salmonella can cause serious and potentially fatal infections, particularly in vulnerable groups.
