It’s led by two of the UK’s biggest TV stars.

A BBC comedy that has been hailed as “heartfelt” and “deliciously watchable” is set to return for a new series.

Daddy Issues, starring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey, has already aired two series and will now return for a third.

Set in Stockport, the first series followed pregnant party animal Gemma (Aimee), who finds herself flat-sharing with her recently separated dad Malcolm (David). In the second series Gemma was seen navigating being a mum to baby Sadie with her hapless dad’s help.

It has now been revealed that it will be back for a third run, with cast member Sarah Hadland sharing that filming is due to start in the autumn.

While the BBC has not officially announced the news, the actress, who plays Gemma’s blunt boss Rita in the comedy, appeared to confirm it during an appearance on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen.

She said: “I’ve got Daddy Issues coming up, uh, series three. We’re filming series three… kind of autumn time, with lovely Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey and David Fynn.”

Daddy Issues has gone down a storm with viewers since it first aired in 2024, with a critic from The Times saying: “Daddy Issues is the funniest sitcom I’ve seen in ages. It really is a sitcom, too. Not a comedy drama. Comedy in a situation. Sitcom. You remember.”

A review in The Telegraph said the programme was “deft, daft and deliciously watchable”, while The Guardian said: “Daddy Issues is daft, honest, funny and tinged with bleakness. It gives stereotypes a twist and everything feels that bit more resonant as a result.”

Many people called the series “hilarious” and “heartfelt”.

“The writing is brilliant as all the main characters are given great depth,” one fan wrote on IMDb.com.

Another viewer said: “This is a warm hug of a show, the sort of series that is quintessentially British with the humour coming from real situations.”

The viewer noted that the show’s humour “isn’t forced”, saying it made “the best lines real laugh out loud moments”.
