Kevin Keegan, the former Newcastle player and manager, has revealed he is responding well to a new treatment for stage-four cancer.
The 74-year-old was diagnosed after being admitted to hospital in January with “ongoing abdominal symptoms”.
Keegan, who also captained and managed England, expressed his desire to return to St James’ Park next season for a proper farewell, having not had the chance when he last left the club.
He made over 300 appearances for Liverpool and won the Ballon d’Or twice with Hamburg during his playing career.
Newcastle United sent a message of heartfelt support to Keegan and his family following his diagnosis, acknowledging his cherished place in the club’s history.
