Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards, 82, becomes great-grandad for first time

Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards has become a great-grandad at 82. His granddaughter, Ella Richards, gave birth to her first child, a daughter called Luna, and announced the news over the weekend as she celebrated her 30th birthday.

Posing with a photo of her newborn baby girl, Ella – who is a model signed to Models 1 agency – wrote: “30!! best birthday yet with our baby girl Luna.” Burberry star Ella confirmed her pregnancy back in March with a black-and-white photograph showing off her growing bump.

She welcomed the new arrival with her long-term aristocrat boyfriend, photographer Sascha von Bismarck, 31. He is the younger brother of Kate Moss’s ex-boyfriend, Nikolai von Bismarck, 39. Ella also counts model Kate as her godmother.

Famous names to comment underneath congratulating Ella included socialite and fashion muse Daphne Guinness – descendant of the famous brewing dynasty – who wrote: “Happy Birthday so so sweet.”

Fashion influencer Camille Charrière, who counts stars like Alexa Chung as a pal and rubs shoulders with the top tastemakers on the London and Paris fashion scenes, simply posted: “Love u.” While Princess Diana’s niece, model and aristocrat Lady Kitty Spencer, commented: “Heaven! Happy birthday and biggest congratulations my love.”

Ella is the daughter of Marlon Richards, the eldest of Keith’s five children, at 56, and his French wife Lucie de la Falaise, 53, an aristocrat and former model turned designer, who is best known for her work with French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent.

Reacting to the news he was about to become a great-grandfather alongside being a grandfather of eight, Keith wrote: “Sending love and looking forward to welcoming my first great-grandchild!” when Ella revealed the happy news earlier this year.

Keith is also dad to daughter Dandelion, 54, – who goes by her middle name Angela – with Italian-German actress, artist and model Anita Pallenberg, who was an ‘It girl’ of the 1960s and 1970s. Along with Marlon and Angela, the pair shared a son, Tara, who tragically died of sudden infant death syndrome aged two months in 1976.

Anita was known as the ‘muse’ for the Stones and actually dated Keith’s bandmate Brian Jones, one of the founding members of the group, who died after drowning in his swimming pool in 1969 at the age of just 27.

She began a relationship with Keith in 1967, and the pair remained together until 1980. It’s reported that both were heavy heroin users at the time, and while Keith got clean, Anita struggled with addiction for much of her life. She died from complications relating to Hepatitis C in 2017, aged 75.

In 1983, Keith married American model and actress Patti Hansen, 70, and they are still married today. She is heavily credited with helping Keith get off drugs. Together, they had two more children, daughters Theodora, 41, and Alexandra, 39. Theodora is a model who has appeared in publications like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. While Alexandra is a model turned DJ.

When it comes to his eight grandkids, his firstborn, Marlon, has three children with his wife, Lucie: Ella, Orson, and Ida. Daughter Angela has two children with her longtime boyfriend, Graham Whitney: a daughter, Ava Melody, born in 2011, and a son, Otto Reed, born in 2014.

While daughter Alexandra is married to film director Jacques Naude, with whom she shares two children – daughter Arlowe Mae, five, and one-year-old son Elvis Nova.

Keith is the second current Rolling Stone to reach great-grandfather status. His bandmate Mick Jagger, 82, became a great-grandad in 2014 when his granddaughter Assisi Jackson, daughter of jewellery designer Jade Jagger, welcomed her first child.
