Troops of 12 Brigade operating under Operation MESA have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered arms and ammunition during an ambush operation in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
A counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a post on X.
Makama stated that the operation was conducted following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected terrorists around Jakura 2 community.
He noted that troops responded to the information and laid an ambush along a suspected terrorist crossing point on the old Obajana–Tajimi Road in the early hours of the operation.
According to him, during the encounter, one suspected terrorist was neutralised while others reportedly fled the scene.
The security expert stressed that items recovered from the operation included one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, three of which were loaded with a total of 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a bandolier and a mobile phone.
He described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal and terrorist activities within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
“Troops have continued domination patrols in the area to prevent the movement of criminal elements and enhance security for residents.
“The recovered items are expected to aid further intelligence and investigative efforts,” he said.
