Donald Trump is considering having a performer he claims “gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime” headline a festival celebrating America’s 250th birthday – himself, or, as he calls himself, the “GOAT”
The US president, 79, said in a post on Truth Social on Saturday that he was considering headlining the Great American State Fair on the National Mall after a number of high-profile performers pulled out.
Trump said: “I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar, the man who loves our Country more than anyone else, and the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP, to take the place of these highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists’.”
Multiple performers booked for the 16-day festival – set to run from June 25 to July 10 – dropped out, with many saying they were misled about the political affiliation of the event. The festival is being organised by Freedom 250, the nonprofit created by the Trump administration.
Artists including Young MC, Morris Day, The Commodores, Bret Michaels and Martina McBride have since said they will not be taking part.
