The celebrity version of Pointless has been shelved for the year.
The BBC show – popular with its fans and hosted by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman – won’t air this year, it has been revealed. However, the non celebrity version of the BBC programme has survived.
Richard Osman revealed the news on his podcast, with the BBC later confirming the show wouldn’t air this year.
A statement from the BBC reads: “Whilst there are currently no plans for any new celebrity editions this year, Pointless remains a much-loved programme for audiences on BBC One and iPlayer.”

Richard Osman exited his role hosting House of Games on BBC Two earlier this year, bidding farewell after nine years at the helm, with Hollywood’s Michael Sheen set to step in later this year.
Richard confirmed he’ll be hosting a brand new quiz show titled The Golden Elevators, due to film later this year. He said: “Can I make an ITV announcement? Obviously I’ve left House of Games and Pointless and all of that, and I wanted to do a bit of TV and people have pitched me various quizzes and Studio Lambert, funnily enough, they came to me with a show called Golden Elevators, which is an ITV quiz that I am going to be filming this autumn.
“I’m looking forward to it very much indeed. I always think, if someone pitches me a quiz, ‘Do I like it as a quiz? Are viewers going to enjoy it? Is there something I could do to make this better?'”
He added: “Golden Elevators is the first one where I thought both of those things. It’s super simple but it takes a lot of skill to win it and I can present it in a really interesting, slightly unusual way, not kind of like a shiny floor, and I can give away a big prize.”
In March 2026, it was confirmed Richard was quitting his hosting role on House Of Games.
“Richard Osman has established House of Games as one of our best-loved shows,” BBC daytime boss Rob Unsworth said, “His contribution to its success is impossible to overstate, and we couldn’t be more grateful for his work over the last nine years. But as we wish him even more success in the future, we also look forward to sharing with viewers who the House of Games’s next resident will be – and will have more on that soon.”
Richard stepped down from Pointless three years ago. At the time, hesaid that the books had “become such a juggernaut around the world I simply couldn’t keep up with my schedule”.

His co-host Alexander Armstrong said: “Daytime television’s loss is international best-selling crime fiction’s gain. I say that like it’s a consolation – I’m going to miss the big man next to me Monday to Friday. But at least I still get him at weekends – and weekdays if you’re watching on Challenge.”
