Welcome to Mirror Football ‘s transfer news live blog ahead of what’s going to be a busy summer.
Manchester United look as though they’re going to be the first Premier League side to strengthen their squad, after agreeing a £37m deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson. Michael Carrick guided the side back to the Champions League and was appointed permanent manager after an impressive stint in charge.
United know they have to strengthen his squad if they want to compete on multiple fronts and the club are hopeful of signing another midfielder, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson at the top of their transfer wishlist. In terms of outgoings, Carrick also needs to find a solution to Marcus Rashford’s future, with Barcelona reportedly not willing to activate their option-to-buy.
Premier League winners Arsenal are also looking to strengthen and have been linked with a move for Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers. The Gunners, United and Chelsea are all being linked with the England international who has made a strong start to the season.
Liverpool are also looking to rebuild their squad this summer and know they need to find a replacement for club legend Mohamed Salah after his departure from Anfield was confirmed. Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola and Anthony Gordon have all been linked with a move to Arne Slot’s side, though they look set to miss out on the latter after the Newcastle star underwent a medical at Barcelona.

In response, Atletico’s X page said they had made a bid for Barcelona teenage sensation Lamine Yamal. However, it became clear it was a sarcastic joke.
They wrote: “HERE WE GO. We have sent a fax to Barcelona with our transfer offer: 4 tickets for tomorrow’s Bad Bunny concert, an annual subscription to ABC, and a bag of sunflower seeds. We eagerly await the response to prepare the ‘announce[ment]’.”

Michael Skubala will be replaced by two head coaches at Lincoln City, with his assistants Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw stepping up following his departure.
Both Cohen and Shaw have excelled while working alongside Skubala and appointing them as head coaches is a continuation of the structure which led Lincoln to the League One title last term, with team selection always being a collaborative process.
The Imps interviewed external candidates as part of their succession planning but Cohen and Shaw have been deemed the best candidates to take the club forward.
Both Cohen and Shaw, the latter of whom oversaw seven games as head coach in an interim capacity prior to Skubala’s arrival, hold UEFA Pro Licenses.

Bristol City have named Michael Skubala as their new manager after paying in excess of £1million to prise him away from Championship new boys Lincoln City.
The Robins have moved to appoint Skubala as the permanent successor to Gerhard Struber, who was sacked in March, after previously making a move for Tommy Elphick.
Skubala arrives off the back of a stellar 2025-26 campaign with Lincoln City, whom he guided to the League One title. However, there is confidence that his departure will not impact the Imps’ preparations for their first season back in the second tier of English football for 65 years.
Lincoln’s hierarchy were expecting interest in Skubala as a result of his impressive body of work, with the 43-year-old turning down offers during the club’s title-winning campaign.

Incoming Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso is “still messaging” former protégé Arda Guler despite departing Real Madrid. And it’s that connection with the player that could pave the way for a reunion should things fall Chelsea’s way this summer.
Alonso, 44, was in charge at the Bernabeu for just seven months before being sacked in January. Yet it’s evident that proved long enough for the Liverpool icon to forge an enduring relationship with Guler, whom he persuaded to stay at the club.
