Trump sexual abuse accuser E Jean Carroll faces perjury probe over lawsuit funding – report
E. Jean Carroll recalls facing Trump in court: ‘He was nothing’
The Justice Department has reportedly launched a criminal investigation into E Jean Carroll, the writer who accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault.
The investigation will reportedly focus on whether Carroll committed perjury in her civil lawsuits against Trump.
Carroll was previously awarded $5 million after a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse, and a further $83.3 million for his defamatory statements.
Federal prosecutors are reportedly examining a 2022 videotaped deposition where Carroll said that she did not receive outside funding, despite later revelations that billionaire Reid Hoffman covered some of her legal expenses.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has recused himself from the current investigation, having previously represented Trump as his personal lawyer.
