A Hamilton man was left with a black eye after his partner attacked him.

Kyle McNaughton, 37, of Glencoe Place, Hamilton, appeared at the town’s sheriff court.

He admitted assaulting the man at the victim’s home in Nevis Avenue on May 31 last year.

The court heard the men had a disagreement over a phone call the victim made to McNaughton’s mother.

Rosemary O’Neill, prosecuting, said: “The accused said he would attend at his partner’s home.

“He turned up about 2am and an argument ensued. The accused then punched the complainer to the side of the face two or three times.

“The complainer got to his feet and tried to usher him out of the house.

“McNaughton then tried to put his hands around his neck. The complainer asked him to calm down but McNaughton pushed him against a wall and punched him on the stomach.

“There was a scuffle before the complainer managed to usher the accused out of the house. He then dialled 999.”

Police officers saw the victim had swelling to the side of his face and a black eye.

Sheriff John Hamilton KC noted that McNaughton has previous convictions for assault.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment. The sheriff will also consider imposing a non-harassment order.
