Public commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has reacted to reports linking former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He described the development as desperate measures in desperate moments.
In a post shared on X on Tuesday, Shehu questioned Pantami’s political journey and past roles in the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his alleged shift raises serious political and moral questions.
“Wonders shall never end. Desperate measures in desperate moments. Interesting times ahead,” he wrote.
Shehu also alleged that Pantami was once a strong supporter of the APC and benefited from the party’s administration under former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
He claimed Pantami had significant influence during the Buhari administration and accused him of supporting policies that, according to him, went against the Nigerian Communications Act.
He further argued that during the years of the APC government, the party frequently blamed former President, Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP for Nigeria’s challenges.
“Pantami was part of the APC team that blamed Jonathan and PDP at every opportunity,” he stated.
According to him, Pantami should now take responsibility for his past political positions and apologise to Jonathan.
“The most sensible and decent thing for Pantami to do is to publicly apologise to President Jonathan for his past unwarranted condemnations,” he said.
Shehu also criticised what he described as political inconsistency, saying he would be surprised to see Pantami now supporting the same political camp he once opposed.
“It will be a great pleasure to see, listen and hear a Pantami promoting an Ebele, the same Ebele who his master, benefactor, PMB so vilified,” he said.
He added that such political moves reflect desperation for power and influence.
Using a metaphor, he said political actors who shift positions repeatedly under pressure are like rat leaving a burning house only to run into an even bigger fire.
He warned that such actions often end badly for those involved.
Shehu also faulted both APC and PDP in his remarks.
According to him, political parties should be careful about accepting high-profile defectors without scrutiny.
He concluded by warning against what he described as inordinate ambition.
He urged public figures to reflect on their actions and motivations.
