History made at 2026 AMAs as K-pop stars claim major awards

K-pop royalty BTS make comeback after four-year military service
  • K-pop sensation BTS secured the coveted Artist of the Year award at the American Music Awards, marking their first major awards show appearance in approximately four years following the completion of mandatory military service by its members.
  • This victory made BTS the first Asian act to win Artist of the Year twice, having previously claimed the title in 2021, and they also took home awards for Best Male K-pop Artist and Song of the Summer for “Swim”.
  • In a significant upset, “Golden” from the animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters was named Song of the Year, triumphing over entries from artists including Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen.
  • The track, performed by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, had already achieved considerable success, including a Grammy Award earlier this year, and spent eight weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • K-Pop Demon Hunters also received the Best Soundtrack award, with “Golden” earning a second prize for Best Vocal Performance, while Sabrina Carpenter and girl group Katseye were among other notable winners.
