Details of Farage’s £5m gift obtained ‘illegally’ as Reform MP backs leader
Nigel Farage clashes with Beth Rigby over questions on £5m donation
Reform UK MP Danny Kruger has asserted that details concerning Nigel Farage’s finances were “illegally” acquired, following Farage’s claim that a Russian hack disclosed a £5 million donation.
A party source reportedly indicated that a “forensic analysis” of Mr Farage’s phone suggested “hostile state actors, almost certainly linked to Moscow,” used “spear phishing” tactics.
Mr Farage is facing increasing pressure to substantiate his claim, which emerged amid intensifying scrutiny over the £5 million gift from Thailand-based crypto-entrepreneur Christopher Harborne.
The disclosure of the £5 million gift has prompted an investigation by Westminster’s standards watchdog into whether Mr Farage broke Commons rules by not declaring it after his 2024 election.
Mr Farage has stated the money was a “personal” gift received before he decided to stand for Parliament again, intended to cover his private security and as a “reward for campaigning for Brexit.”
