The BBC’s brand-new drama Dear England boasts an impressive cast.

Dear England broadcasts on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this evening (Sunday, May 24).

The four-episode drama is based on playwright James Graham’s stage production Dear England – Graham previously penned ITV’s Quiz and Sherwood – and chronicles Gareth Southgate (portrayed by Joseph Fiennes) assuming control of the England men’s squad following their humiliating loss to Iceland, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Southgate and his players will confront their penalty shoot-out demons with support from psychologist Pippa Grange (Jodie Whittaker) as they pursue success on the pitch.

Joseph Fiennes takes the lead role as England boss Gareth Southgate, having previously appeared in The Handmaid’s Tale, Enemy at the Gates, Shakespeare in Love and Prime Video’s Young Sherlock.

Jodie Whittaker portrays psychologist Pippa Grange, with the performer widely recognised for Broadchurch, Doctor Who and Frauds.

Daniel Ryan, known for ITV’s The Bay and Mount Pleasant, takes on the role of England football coach Steve Holland.

Sam Spruell, who appeared in BBC’s The Gold and Fargo, plays Mike Webster.

John Hodgkinson, whose credits include Napoleon, Witless and Skyfall, portrays businessman and football executive Greg Clarke.

Jason Watkins, best known for his roles in Line of Duty, McDonald and Dodds and Trollied, portrays broadcaster and football administrator Greg Dyke.

Sherwood and 1917 star Adam Hugill takes on the role of England footballer Harry Maguire.

Netflix’s Hostage and ITV’s Vera actor Josh Barrow portrays footballer Jordan Pickford.

Rising talent Lewis Shepherd steps into the role of Dele Alli, following appearances in Lynley and 10 Swords and The Moon. He reprises his portrayal of the footballer from the Dear England stage production.

Will Antenbring, known for Mr Loverman and The Bridges We Cross, takes on the role of footballer Harry Kane.

Mr Loverman, War of the Worlds and Vera actor Edem-Ita Duke portrays Marcus Rashford.

Francis Lovehall, widely recognised for his work in A Thousand Blows on Disney+ and Champion, steps into the role of Raheem Sterling.

Bobby Schofield, familiar from This City is Ours, Anne and SAS Rogue Heroes, portrays Wayne Rooney.

Masters of the Air and The Crown’s David Shields takes on the role of Jordan Henderson.

Hamish Frew, known for ITV’s Joan and The Girlfriend, portrays Eric Dier.
