Need to know

  1. Race start time: The eagerly awaited 110th edition of this legendary race takes place on Sunday, May 24. The green flag is scheduled to wave to kick off the racing action at 5.30pm BST.
  2. UK TV channel: Motorsport enthusiasts in the United Kingdom can catch the entire main event live on Sky Sports Mix, rather than Sky Sports F1, which normally shows IndyCar action. That is because the F1 channel is broadcasting the Canadian Grand Prix from Montreal later that day. The network’s dedicated pre-race coverage gets underway at 3.50pm.
  3. Streaming with Sky Sports: Subscribers wishing to follow the action away from their main television screen can access a live stream through the Sky Go app. Alternatively, the broadcast can be viewed on laptops and desktop browsers via the Sky Sports website.
  4. Alternative streaming options: Non-Sky subscribers can still watch the race online through the Sky-owned NOW service. Daily and monthly passes are available from £14.99.
  5. British hopes: The UK will be represented by three drivers, Louis Foster, Katherine Legge and Jack Harvey. Foster is competing for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Following a solid 12th-place finish last year, he secured a 21st-place starting position on the grid for this race. The seasoned Legge – the only woman in the race – is driving for HMD Motorsports with AJ Foyt Racing, starting from 26th position. Finally, Harvey, driving for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, qualified 29th before a post-qualifying technical infringement dropped him to the back of the 33-car field.
  6. Main contenders: The defending Indy 500 winner, reigning IndyCar champion and pole-sitter Alex Palou is the clear favourite. He faces stiff competition from formidable challengers, including Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas and Christian Lundgaard, all of whom have shown blistering pace throughout the season.
  7. Team Penske threat: The mighty Penske outfit, spearheaded by two-time winner Josef Newgarden, should never be written off. The American star is desperate to haul himself up the championship standings and has a proven knack for delivering on the biggest occasions.
  8. Double-header: This legendary American race begins a stunning double-header on Sunday for motorsport fans. The Indy 500 is expected to finish just in time for viewers to switch over to the Canadian Grand Prix, which gets underway at 9pm UK time.
