Liverpool will bring the curtain down on a vastly subpar season on Sunday against Brentford at Anfield. While Champions League football is not yet officially secured, the Reds must avoid defeat to the Bees and hope Bournemouth don’t pull off a six-goal swing against Nottingham Forest.

With or without a place in Europe’s premier competition next year, Liverpool are in severe need of a refresh. Rumblings of that said shuffle are starting to emerge, too.

While much of this season has focused on the relationship between Arne Slot and Mohamed Salah, today’s news sees the Dutch coach address the winger’s impending exit. Elsewhere, Liverpool are eyeing a potentially major appointment.

Slot has paid tribute to Salah, categorising their Premier League title win together last season as the most special achievement of his career.

An emotionally charged atmosphere is expected at Anfield on Sunday as fans will bid farewell to Salah and Andy Robertson. Salah’s relationship with the Liverpool manager has been unsettled this season, after Salah criticsed the coach in December and then made an inflamatory social media post last week.

Yet Slot claims he will recall the Reds’ success last season, as the Egyptian spearheaded Liverpool to their 20th top-flight title scoring 29 Premier League goals, with great fondness.

Speaking ahead of the Brentford clash, Slot said: “How will I remember Mo? 100% last season, I think he said, and that means even more than when I said it, because he has won so many things at this club – he said the most special thing he has won was last season’s Premier League title.

“Now I can safely say that was the most special thing I have won in my life, so I will remember that and how important he was in that season for the club. And as a result also for me with all the goals he scored.

“We, as a club, as a team, we weren’t on the same heights this season but I will 100% mainly remember him for last season and the fans should maybe remember him for all these seasons that he played for us but my main memory will definitely be last season.”

Liverpool are rumoured to be closing in on the appointment of Etienne Reijnen to Slot’s coaching staff, which is the biggest indicator yet that the under-fire Dutchman will remain at Anfield this summer.

Reijnen previously worked alongside Slot at Feyenoord and remained there until last Sunday, when he left his role. It’s believed that the 39-year-old former PEC Zwolle player has told those close to him that he’s preparing to make a move to the Premier League side, as per the Telegraph.

Slot had planned to bring Reijnen with him to Liverpool in 2024 when he first arrived, but that move collapsed. The Liverpool boss has faced serious questions regarding his future, especially in light of the Reds’ sobering 4-2 defeat away to Aston Villa earlier this month.

However, if reports are to be taken at face value, it appears Slot has been given a huge vote of confidence by the club’s owners, with his compatriot set to be appointed to his staff.
