Former Minister of Transport Mu’azu Jaji Sambo has called on President Bola Tinubu and the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intervene in what he described as a weakening of internal democracy in the Taraba State chapter of the party.

Sambo made the appeal on Saturday through his senior media aide, Dr Sam Idiagbonya, who also called for a review of the APC governorship primary election in the state.

The APC primary election committee had on Saturday declared the incumbent governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, winner of the party’s governorship ticket after polling 166,357 votes, while Sambo emerged first runner-up with 4,110 votes.

However, Dr Idiagbonya rejected the outcome, insisting that the exercise fell short of the democratic standards the APC claims to uphold.

He said, “Politics may be about power, but even power must respect process.”

According to him, many loyal APC members in Taraba were left “betrayed, humiliated, and politically orphaned” by the conduct of the primary election.

“What we perceived during the governorship primary election was an overwhelming political force overpowering internal democracy,” he said.

Sambo alleged irregularities, exclusion of key stakeholders and a lack of transparency, warning that failure to address the concerns could damage both the integrity of the exercise and the image of the party.

“This is why we are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leadership of the APC, and the party chairman to urgently review the conduct of the Taraba State gubernatorial primaries,” he added.

He stressed that the APC must “rise to its purpose, defend its honour, and remain a model of democratic process.”
