Royal Mint Lord of the Rings coin has hidden surprise feature
The coin will be available to buy from Wednesday morning (Royal Mint/PA)
- The Royal Mint has launched a new 50p collectable coin to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Peter Jackson’s film, The Fellowship of the Ring.
- Designed by Thomas T Docherty, the coin features the One Ring with its iconic Elvish inscription, “One Ring to rule them all”.
- A selection of these coins boasts a “groundbreaking” hidden image of the Eye of Sauron, which is revealed when light strikes the surface.
- This unique feature was achieved through meticulous engineering by Royal Mint craftspeople using innovative caustic technology.
- The coin, which is the first in a seven-strong collection, will be available from 20 May via the Royal Mint’s website, with prices starting at £15.
