Trump still has his eyes on Greenland, reports say
Trump unable to provide details on Greenland ‘deal’
Donald Trump‘s administration has been engaged in closed-door talks with Greenlandic and Danish officials regarding an increased US presence in Greenland.
The discussions, which followed Trump’s earlier threat to acquire Greenland, focus on bolstering US military presence, exploiting natural resources, and controlling shipping lanes due to the island’s strategic Arctic location.
Proposals include allowing the US to vet foreign investment deals in Greenland to counter Chinese or Russian influence, and expanding US military facilities.
Greenlandic officials have expressed significant concerns about these proposals, viewing them as an infringement on their sovereignty and self-determination.
Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens Frederick-Nielsen affirmed that “The Greenlandic people are not for sale” and that their self-determination is non-negotiable, despite openness to cooperation.
