Citigroup has appointed veteran banker Sophia Wang as a managing director and head of China financial-institutional sales and senior relationship management (SRM), marking the latest move by the Wall Street lender to deepen its footprint in mainland capital markets despite ongoing geopolitical friction.
Wang joined the bank on Tuesday, according to an internal staff memo. Based in Shanghai, she will oversee institutional sales coverage across rates, spread products, foreign exchange, commodities and equity derivatives. She will also manage high-level strategic relationships with key local financial institutions, as well as global SRM clients looking to access China’s markets for investment and financing.
With more than two decades of international banking experience, Wang spent 15 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London, where she led fixed-income, currencies and commodities sales targeting sovereign wealth funds and major Chinese financial institutions across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
Earlier in her career, she held debt-capital-markets and treasury roles across London, Hong Kong and Shanghai at Standard Chartered Bank.
