Why Uganda reversed decision to withdraw from Invictus Games
- Uganda has reversed its decision to withdraw from Prince Harry’s Invictus Games following an intervention by King Charles III‘s principal private secretary.
- Uganda’s chief of defence forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, had initially pulled the nation out out of reverence for the King after Buckingham Palace reiterated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are private citizens.
- Sir Clive Alderton telephoned General Kainerugaba to clarify that King Charles was moved by Uganda’s consideration but had no problem with the country’s participation.
- The Uganda People’s Defence Force confirmed it will now resume preparations for the upcoming games, which are scheduled to be held in Birmingham.
- Uganda was unveiled as a member of the Invictus family two months ago, becoming only the second African nation to join the foundation after Nigeria.
