How police helped woman secure N300,000 surgery debt waiver – Ogun CP

The Ogun State Police Command has helped a bereaved woman secure a waiver of her outstanding N300,000 hospital bill following the death of her baby after a Caesarean Section.
The woman, Precious Mathew, of the Ogooluwa area behind Owode Market, approached the Owode-Yewa Police Division on Sunday, over the outstanding bill incurred at Longe Hospital Medical Centre, Sabo, Owode-Yewa.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Monday.
Precious had undergone a Caesarean Section at the hospital on June 30, 2026, but lost her baby after the procedure.
According to the police, the total hospital bill was N400,000, of which she had already paid N100,000, leaving an outstanding balance of N300,000.
The matter was brought to the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Olubode Bode Ojajuni, who intervened by engaging the medical doctor, Dr Babanki Samuel, and appealing for understanding and compassion.
The command said, “The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Olubode Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, upon being informed, immediately interfaced with the medical doctor, Dr Babanki Samuel, appealing for understanding and compassion.”
Following the intervention, the doctor voluntarily waived the entire N300,000 outstanding bill, allowing Precious to leave without the burden of further payment.
The police said the doctor was “moved by the circumstances” surrounding the woman’s situation and responded with compassion.
The statement said, “Moved by the circumstances and in a remarkable display of compassion, the doctor voluntarily forgave the entire outstanding balance of N300,000, allowing the woman to leave without the burden of further payment.”
The command said the development demonstrated the importance of dialogue and compassion in resolving disputes involving members of the public.
It said, “This intervention, devoid of confrontation or recrimination, opened a channel for dialogue and ultimately resulted in an act of compassion.”
The police also clarified that the intervention was aimed at resolving the matter amicably rather than escalating the disagreement between the woman and the hospital.
According to the command, “The Ogun State Police Command appreciates Dr Babanki Samuel for his humanity and generosity in this matter.”
The command said the doctor’s gesture had helped relieve the woman of the financial burden at a difficult period following the loss of her child.
It added that the intervention underscored the role of the police in facilitating the peaceful resolution of issues brought before its divisions.
