Police arrest 22-year-old man over stolen motorcycle in C’River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Ason Usang, for allegedly attempting to sell a suspected stolen motorcycle in Ekori, Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, and made available to journalists on Sunday in Calabar, the police said the suspect was arrested at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2026, by men of the Ekori Police Division.
According to the police PRO, the operation led to the recovery of an unregistered Dayang motorcycle with Chassis No. LKIPCKL10M1086477 and Engine No. DY156EMI7133995, which is suspected to have been stolen from Ikom Local Government Area.
The statement partly read, “The Cross River State Police Command has arrested 22-year-old Ason Onen Usang of Abi Local Government Area, and recovered an unregistered Dayang motorcycle suspected to have been stolen from Ikom Local Government Area.
“The suspect was arrested at about 9:00 p.m. on 9 September 2026, by the men of Ekori Police Division while allegedly attempting to sell the motorcycle.
“The motorcycle bears Chassis No. LKIPCKL10M1086477 and Engine No. DY156EMI7133995. The suspect reportedly claimed to have purchased it from an unknown person but could not provide the alleged seller’s identity, purchase documents, or other verifiable evidence of the transaction.”
Eitokpah stated that during interrogation, the suspect claimed he bought the motorcycle from an unknown person. However, he could not provide the seller’s identity, purchase documents or any verifiable evidence of the transaction, adding that the investigation would also determine whether other persons were involved in the suspected theft.
“The suspect remains in Police custody as investigators work to establish the motorcycle’s origin, identify its rightful owner and trace the alleged seller. The investigation will also determine whether other persons were involved in the suspected theft,” he added.
The police further appealed to members of the public who recognise the motorcycle or have information that may assist in locating the owner to contact the Police Public Relations Officer on 07067977330 or 09058273057, or report to the nearest police station.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Geoffrey Ordue, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating property-related crimes, recovering stolen property and ensuring victims get justice.
He assured that at the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect and any other persons found culpable would be charged to court.
“We are committed to combating property-related crimes, recovering stolen property, and supporting victims in the pursuit of justice. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspect and any other person found culpable will be charged to court in accordance with the law,” he added.
