A serious crash on the M11 in Essex is causing major delays near Stansted Airport with tourists warned to expect lane closures for most of the day.

National Highways said: “Lane 2 (of 2) is closed on the M11 in Essex in both directions between J8 Stanstead Airport and J9 Newmarket following an earlier collision. Barrier repairs are being carried out. Current delays of 30 minutes in both directions, with 3 miles of congestion on approach.”

The collision was first reported at 8.11am, with barrier repairs continuing at the scene as drivers face long delays and heavy congestion in both directions.

There are now around 15 miles of slow or stationary traffic on the M11.
