  • Cristiano Ronaldo has called on the Saudi Pro League to impose lifetime stadium bans on fans who taunted Ruben Neves with chants referencing his late friend and former teammate, Diogo Jota.
  • During Al-Hilal’s 6-0 victory against Al-Taawoun, opposing supporters repeatedly chanted Jota’s name in an attempt to unsettle the Portuguese midfielder.
  • Neves, who was a pallbearer at Jota’s funeral following his tragic death in a car crash in July 2025, responded on the pitch by pointing to the sky and later remarked that he hoped the fans do not go to prayer later.
  • Ronaldo took to social media to furiously condemn the taunts, stating that football has limits and that supporters responsible for such conduct should be permanently barred from stadiums.
  • Saudi Arabian international Saleh Abu Al-Shamat also denounced the fans’ actions, describing the gloating over the deceased as unacceptable and completely opposed to Islamic values.
