Gov Otu loses three senior administration officials in three years

Three key officials of Governor Bassey Otu’s government, including two serving commissioners and the head of a key parastatal, have died during the first term of his administration.

The Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Eka Williams Abang, died in Abuja on Sunday.

According to family sources who confirmed his death, the commissioner passed on after he slumped. However, the medical circumstances surrounding the development have not been officially disclosed.

On January 8, 2025, Abubakar Robert Ewa, became the first commissioner to die in Otu’s government. He died after attending the State Executive Council meeting that day. Ewa was commissioner for tourism.

Another top official of the administration who died recently was Prince Ojoi Ekpenyong Uguana, Managing Director of the Cross River State Tourism Bureau. He died in June 2026 but was buried only last week.

The Otu administration has not reacted to latest passage of another commissioner.
