Ogun Senator hails Tinubu’s education reforms

The senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security, Shuaib Salisu, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s education reforms, saying they have significantly improved students’ access to tertiary education.
Salisu, according to a statement on Saturday, spoke during an engagement with student groups who visited him to discuss issues affecting students and express their support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The groups, including the National Association of Nigerian Students, Ogun Joint Campus Committee, National Association of University Students and National Association of Ogun State Students, also presented Salisu with an award of excellence.
The senator said the Student Loan Fund introduced by the Tinubu administration had helped reduce the risk of students dropping out by providing tuition support and stipends.
“The rate of dropout in our tertiary education is almost zero on account of the Student Loan Fund,” he said.
Salisu also said industrial actions had reduced significantly in tertiary institutions, giving students greater certainty about their academic programmes.
“Strikes have become something of the past in our tertiary institutions, enabling students to better predict when they would enter and graduate,” he added.
He further praised increased funding for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, saying it had become a major driver of infrastructure development in federal and state tertiary institutions.
The senator said the students’ endorsement reflected their appreciation of the Federal Government’s education policies and his interventions in Ogun Central.
On the 2027 elections, Salisu urged students to focus on the country’s future rather than partisan politics, saying the election would determine the direction of the reforms initiated by Tinubu.
He also called for continuity in Ogun State through the retention of the All Progressives Congress, urging residents to support the party’s candidates at all levels.
Speaking earlier, NANS Ogun JCC Chairman, Olabode Faruq, said the students honoured and endorsed Salisu because of what he described as his “concrete, verifiable and impactful” contributions to the student community.
He said the students were recognising measurable achievements in education and technology rather than political titles, while urging politicians to pay greater attention to young people ahead of the 2027 elections.
